Schmidt, 83, of Alexandria Township passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019 in Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. Born July 9, 1935 in New York, NY he was the son of the late Peter and Helen (Hoffman) Schmidt. Peter and his wife, the former Joan Ann Callen, were married September 1, 1956.

He was a General Manager in the Sales Department with Meenan in Dover, NJ before his retirement. He served in the U.S. National Guard. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader years ago.

He was an exempt volunteer fireman with Hibernia Fire Company #1 in Rockaway, NJ; former member and past Captain of the Hibernia Rescue Squad; and past Treasurer of Lake Telemark Community Club in Rockaway. In addition to his beloved wife, Joan, he is survived by a son Peter (wife, Nancy) of Stewartsville, NJ; two daughters Frances Schmidt of Lopatcong Township and Valerie Ann Donatelli (husband, Ken) of Lopatcong Township; four grandchildren, Peter, Corey, Shannon and Kenny; and a great-grandson, Cairee. He is predeceased by two sisters Muriel Schmidt and Vivian Holmes.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Visitation will be held Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. The family requests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
