Obituary for Phaye Bankston Smith Phaye Smith, 90 of Taylor, Arkansas formerly of Magnolia passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Summit Health and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor. She was born on August 2, 1927 to the late Alva Preston and Dovie (Elliott) Bankston. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, a lifelong resident of Columbia County She and her husband operated a gas station in Magnolia for many years and later in life they and their son, Gary, owned S&S Construction of Magnolia.
She loved to deer hunt and fish before her retirement years and was instrumental in passing the love for those on to her son. She enjoyed telling the stories about her siblings and herself growing up in the hard times of the 1930’s. She wrote a collection of those stories for her family to keep.
She researched and documented her families genealogy. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband H. Weldon Smith; daughter Rheba Smith Emerson; sister and brother in law, Doylene and Jay Sessa; and a brother John Preston “Skip” Bankston.
Phaye is survived by her son, Gary Smith and wife Lynn; two grandsons, Aaron Smith and wife Leah and their daughter Nora, Josh Smith and wife Melissa and their sons Reed and Dylan all of Magnolia; granddaughter Jennifer Stanley and her daughters Abby, Mackenna, Summer, and Sarah all of St. Matthews, South Carolina; and three nephews, Mike Sessa of Magnolia, Mark Sessa and wife Rachel, and Matt Sessa and wife Lynn all of Chicago, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Chris Lucy and Bro.
Will McGee officiating. Burial will follow at Frazier Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
