Kittery, ME – Philip H. McGranahan, 69, of Kittery, passed away on January 20, 2019 at Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, NH after a long illness. He was born in Manchester, NH the son of the late Philip Henry McGranahan and Catherine (Moran) McGranahan. He earned his B.A. and MSW degrees from Boston College and worked as a social worker for most of his career, working in mental health and in employee assistance.

Phil enjoyed his work, ski outings, biking, Red Sox games, travel abroad, boating, kayaking and tennis, among other pursuits. Phil was a charter member of “The Monkey Bar,” a group of BC friends who meet regularly in Cambridge, MA to play pool, watch sports, and talk about life. Phil leaves behind his wife and best friend, Marjorie Foote of Kittery; his sisters, Eileen McGranahan and husband Leonard Rizzuto of Everett, MA; Mary McGranahan and partner Louie Bentgen of Nahant, MA; his special cousin Margaret-Ann Moran of Manchester, NH and many other cousins and much-loved friends.

Phil leaves this life held in love and gratitude by his family and friends for being the man he was: a quiet, smart, funny, occasional curmudgeon who was an unfailing protector for his two sisters, a loving husband and loyal friend. He will be deeply missed. Visiting hours will be held from 1 to 4 PM on Saturday, January 26, 2019 in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
