Phyllis Mae Chance Butler, 88 of Greensboro, passed away at Caroline Nursing Home on Thursday, January 24, 2019. She was born on September 24, 1930 in Easton, Maryland, the daughter of the late William Harold Chance and Lucy Mae Hubbard Chance. She married Alan Butler in March 1951.

She enjoyed dancing, gardening, volunteer work and crafts. She loved her family and helping others. She is survived by two sons, Michael Butler (Elaine) of Easton and Perry Butler of Greenwood; one daughter Linda Lansinger of Grasonville; six grandchildren, Michael Butler, Jr. (Missy) of Denton, Michelle Dennis (Garrison) of Easton, Jime Dawes (Sara) of Stevensville, Jason Dawes of Denton, Haleigh Butler and Nicholas Butler both of Harrington; eight great-grandchildren, Randall Butler, Sydney Butler, Mick Butler, Jenna Dawes, Olivia Morrison, Ava Dawes, Carissa Dennis and Jason Dawes; one great-great granddaughter Parker Hawkins; two sisters, Dorothy Lord of Federalsburg and her twin Evelyn Stafford of Greensboro.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Chance and Charles E. Chance; six sisters, Catherine Chance, Betty Chance, Mary Blanch Astarita, Carolyn Carter, Jean Arnie and Elaine Pressley. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019 at Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Avenue, Greensboro, at 11:00 AM where friends may call one hour earlier. Interment will follow at Greensboro Cemetery.
