Preston Charles Hoalst was born in Ustick, Idaho on May 23, 1921 to Earl and Marsh Nicholes Hoalst, the second of five children. The family had a homestead on Camas Prarie during Preston’s childhood. The family moved to Bruneau, Idaho and then to Hammett, Idaho in 1938.

Preston worked on the ranch until 1941 when he moved to Alaska to work. Preston served in the Navy from 1942-1945. Upon his discharge in 1945 Preston returned to work on the family ranch.

Preston moved to Glenns Ferry, Idaho in 1948 to operate a local gas station and fuel delivery business. It was there he met and married the love of his life, Helen Wynn, in September 1949. They had three children Christopher, Steven and Mary.

Preston returned to ranching once again for about a year moving his family to King Hill, Idaho in 1957. When the family returned to Glenns Ferry Preston became the city clerk. In 1960 Preston and family moved to Nampa, Idaho where Preston operated a Phillips 66 Station owned by his cousin Bob Nicholes.

Preston began his career as an Insurance Agent in the Treasure Valley in 1968 until his retirement. Preston was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Nampa. He also enjoyed his membership in the Elks Club for many years.

Preston was a social man, he never met a stranger. He enjoyed meeting people and sharing personal history and discussing history in general. Preston was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Marsh Hoalst, his wife Helen, his brothers, William, Kaye and WesLee Hoalst, his daughter Mary and his son Steven.

He is survived by his son Christopher and Linda Hoalst, grandson Jared Hoalst; daughter-in-law Justine Hoalst. Ellis and family, grandsons Sam Hoalst and Moe, granddaughter Betsy and James Moore; Son-in-law Michael Dennison, grandchildren Russell and Samuella, Madeline and Christopher Dennison; sister June and her husband John Fitzgerald; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. We wish to thank Heart and Home hospice and Meadow View Assisted Living staff, Emmett, ID.

For their care and kindness of our beloved Preston. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 27, 2018 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Nampa, with burial to follow at the Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bruneau Public Library or St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Preston’s name.
