Obituary for R. Duane “Sam” Holder R. Duane “Sam” Holder, 90, of Independence, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018. Services will be held Friday, December 28th with visitation from 1-2:30pm and funeral service following, both at Blue Ridge United Methodist Church, 5055 Blue Ridge Blvd. , Kansas City, MO 64133.

Interment will follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Sam was born October 19th, 1928 to Ray and Della Holder in Fairmount, MO.

He was a passionate Independence community and church leader throughout his lifetime. His service included over 50 years of Veterinarian Medicine at the Independence Animal Hospital, being a member of the Independence City Council, Kiwanis, the premiere Truman Heartland Foundation, the Independence Regional Hospital Board of Trustees, and was also an Eagle Scout/Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-o-say. He is preceded in death by his brother Dean Holder.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley; his daughter Kristie (Mike) Agee of Independence; his son Bruce (Dawn) Holder of Lee’s Summit; grandchildren, Emily, Lauribeth and Scott (Darci) Agee, Clayton and Natalie Holder; and his sister, Shirley Antrim of Independence. Contributions may be made in his honor to either The Independence Animal Shelter, Boy Scouts of America or The Blue Ridge United Methodist Church.
