Obituary for Velma L. Thomas (Gilmore) Velma L. Thomas, 74, Camdenton, MO, formerly of Independence, MO passed away Dec. 16, 2018. Services will be 10 am, Friday, Dec.

21 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. , Independence, MO 64052; interment at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday at the chapel.

The family requests contributions to St. Jude’s Research Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Velma was born Nov. 28, 1944 in Independence, MO.

She worked at Independence Regional Hospital for over thirty years and then at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, MO for over eight years before her retirement in the summer of 2013. She was very funny and a fun person to be around – a real “Firecracker”. She enjoyed trout fishing at Bennett Springs and trips to Las Vegas.

Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Velma was preceded in death by her husband Jack Thomas and nine siblings. She is survived by daughters Coy Arreguin and husband Frank, Oak Grove, MO; Shauna Howe, Camdenton, MO: son Travis Thomas and wife Deana, Harrison, AR; daughter Jackie Thomas, Kansas City, MO; sister Sharon Mason and husband Bill, Versailles, MO; grandchildren Michael, Mark, Ian, Alyssa, Tyler, Jackson, Nicholas and six great-grandchildren.
