Obituary for Roy Paul Jones Roy Paul Jones, 98 of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at his daughter’s home in Daniel, WY. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the community room at The Groves Retirement Community. Private burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery.

Roy was born July 28, 1920 in Sharon, PA to John Charles and Mae Beatrice (Martin) Jones. Mr. Jones was a longtime distinguished teacher and retired as a school administrator for Ohio Public Schools where he also taught physics. He was instrumental in the construction of a planetarium and served as its director for several years.

He received his formal education from 1939-40 at Graceland College, his BS from Youngstown State University and his MS from Kent State in 1954. He was the district commissioner for the Ohio Boy Scouts of America and camp director of the council and had also served as past president. He proudly served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII.

After moving to Independence later in life he became an active member of the Community of Christ, Stone Church where he served as high priest. Survivors include; a daughter, Julie Ann Huntley and husband Jim of Daniel, WY; a son, Barry Jones and wife Kathy of Trout Lake, WA; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Amy Travis Jones, in 1999.

His 2nd wife, Meurial Stearns Jones, passed away in 2014; and a son, Brian P. Jones in 2014. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.
