Obituary for R. Marvin Taylor Roy Marvin Taylor, 79, formerly of Spartanburg, SC, departed this life on Sunday, September 9, 2018, peacefully at his home in Asheville, NC after a brief illness. Born April 9, 1939, in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of the late Roy Hanford Taylor and Helen Leona (Taylor) Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Tonzia T. Bishop; son, Timothy M. Taylor; and brothers, Eugene H. Taylor and Thomas W. Taylor (Margaret).

Marvin was a graduate of Spartanburg High Class of 1957 and Limestone College Class of 1968. He was a U. S. Army veteran and upon being discharged in 1964, spent 75 years in Spartanburg, SC, moving to Asheville in 2016. Marvin was the founder and owner of Sun Supply Co., a heating and air-conditioning wholesale business, throughout the 1980’s.

An avid golfer, talented woodworker, and Spartanburg Sertoma Club member, he enjoyed entertaining his friends and family with daring water-ski antics and “Boogie-Woogie” piano playing. He loved the camaraderie of his golfing and handball brothers, his “spades partners,” and “his long lost cousins”. He will be missed dearly for his quick humor and his loving, generous spirit.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Layne Burns Taylor; sister, Elithe Turner of Piedmont, SC; daughter-in-law, Beth Taylor of Spartanburg, SC; son-in-law, Joey Praytor of Spartanburg, SC; stepchildren, John B. Zuber (Jean-Carlo) of Fort Worth, TX, James P. Zuber (Ana P.) of Asheville, NC, Joseph B. Zuber and Debora C. Turner (Chris), all of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Taylor Dixon Renquist (John) of Woodbridge, VA, Joseph Grey Praytor (Liz) of Spartanburg, SC, Nicholas, Sofi, and Gabriela Zuber of Asheville, NC, Corey S. Harris (Ashton), and Seany S. Urick (Trevor) of Spartanburg, SC; great-grandchildren, Timothy Owen, Aven Munro, Jacob Mills, and John Sullivan Renquist of Woodbridge, VA; sister-in-law, Debra Taylor of Little Rock, AR; brother-in-law, Jim Burns of Asheville, NC; and many special nieces, nephews, and more friends than one can count. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, September 14, 2018, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family requests no flowers please.
