Rachel Market was born in Mulberry Grove, Illinois on July 14, 1929 to Luther and Tinabelle Moore. She passed peacefully after an extended illness on April 28, 2018 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. When Rachel was 21 she married Jack Market and they spent 43 years together before he passed away in April, 1993.

Rachel is survived by sons Jerry (Debi) Market, Craig Market and daughters Diana Pittman, Jackie (Prime) Pal and Gina (Dana) Stovin. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Rachel worked as an operator for the local telephone company for over 20 years before earning her business degree from Indiana Business College.

She joined Jack at family owned Able Construction and worked for many years as Able’s accountant and office manager. She was known for her business acumen and was on the Board of Directors for the Wabash Valley Business Association. Rachel was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, gardener and loving homemaker.

Most of all Rachel loved the Lord and her life was a testimony to Jesus Christ Whom she received as her personal Savior at a very young age. For as long as she was able she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and extended her hand to the poor and needy. Many folks attributed their Christian walk to Rachel bringing them to Sunday School during her many years driving for the bus ministry.

Above all her many accomplishments and service to others she would have known “……no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth” (III John 1:4) A public viewing will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 3rd, at the Independent Baptist Church at 760 N Jefferson in Montezuma. A funeral will immediately follow at noon. A graveside service at Oakland Cemetery in Montezuma will follow the funeral.
