RALPH J. VERHOFF KALIDA – Ralph J. Verhoff, 94, of Kalida died at 6:12 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Meadows of Kalida. He was born January 27, 1924 in Greensburg Twp. to the late Albert J. and Catherine (Horstman) Verhoff.
On April 23, 1947, he married Dolores I. Deters who preceded him in death April 20, 2017. Survivors include seven children, Gloria (James) Carr of Kalida, Rebecca (Paul) Rosengarten of Miller City, Deborah (James) Bockrath, Thomas (Diane) Verhoff, Timothy (Debra) Verhoff, Ted (Cheryl) Verhoff, and Sharon (Charles) Smith, all of Kalida; 25 grandchildren, Scott A. Meyers, Michelle (Bob) Fry, Kimberly Meyers, Timothy (Rachel) Meyers, Nicholas (Shari) Meyers, Kurt (Nicole) Rosengarten, Mindy (Erick) Gracely, Seth (Yolanda Reynolds) Rosengarten, Brent (Heather) Bockrath, Ned (Nikki) Bockrath, Brittany Bockrath, Benjamin Bockrath, Heidi Verhoff, Audrey (Brian) Beining, Emily (Adam) Chevalier, Molly (Jake) Kersh, Chelsea (Brett) Schnipke, Alyssa Verhoff, Justine (Eric Kahle) Verhoff, Derek Verhoff, Tyler Verhoff, Kaylyn Verhoff, Trent Smith, Marissa (Logan Recker) Smith, and Whitney Smith; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Theresa Warren of Leipsic; and a sister-in-law, Connie Verhoff. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Kay Verhoff; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Isadore (Mildred) Verhoff, Raymond Verhoff, Arnold (Mary) Verhoff, and Leonard (Dolores) Verhoff.
Ralph was a life-long farmer which he thoroughly enjoyed. He retired from Ford Motor Company as a Millwright on February 1, 1986. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida, and its Holy Name Society, Kalida Knights of Columbus, Kalida Fish & Game, and Ottawa Eagles.
Ralph enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, playing cards, and going to his grandchildren’s activities. Ralph was a man of many hats. He loved to take drives around the countryside looking for deer, turkeys, and then finishing his trip with having ice cream.
He was a former member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Cuba. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2019 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Isidore Cemetery, Cuba. Visitation will be Saturday 6 to 8 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 6:00 p.m., Sunday 2 to 8 p.m., and Monday one hour prior to the service at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Ottawa. Memorial contributions may be made to Kalida 4-Seasons Park, Kalida Knights of Columbus, or St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
