Ramon’s Obituary It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ramon Godinez-Chavez at home with family on January 9th, 2019. Ramon, 61, bravely fought a stage 4 cancer diagnosis for more than three years. Ramon was born in Michoacan, Mexico in March of 1957, the 4th of 16 children, to Juan Godinez and Ernestina Godinez-Chavez.
Growing up on a ranch in rural Mexico with his large extended family played an important role in shaping the wonderful person he became. Ramon came to the Bay Area in his teens. After meeting at work, he and Christy Molsberry married in 1976, a loving union which lasted 42 years until his passing.
Ramon was welcomed by his in-laws and loved his “second family” with whom many good times were shared over the years. A dedicated family man, Ramon was a loving and devoted father to daughter Alicia born in 1977, son Tomas born in 1978 and son Raymond born in 1982. They were loved beyond measure and were his pride and joy.
Ramon had a particularly large, positive impact on them because much of their childhood he worked full-time (often overtime) while alternating employment and child-raising duties with Christy. In his later years, his beloved grandsons Alden and Ethan brought him much joy and brightened his life immeasurably. Ramon had a ready sense of humor and laughed easily.
It was never in his nature to complain or feel sorry for himself. He was an easy person to be around who connected with people from all walks of life. He was the person you called if you needed help.
He always calmly, patiently and competently found a way to make things work. Self-motivated, with a strong work ethic, he was an example to his children and us all. “Super Pop” was strong, steady, dependable and the rock of our family.
Ramon was a “doer”. He could always be relied upon to keep the yard, house, vehicles and bicycles well-maintained. In his spare time, he could be found tending to his fruit and vegetable plants.
He was a self-taught mechanic and restorer of 1950s and 1960s Chevy trucks. He loved nature, the ocean, hiking, camping, road trips, local adventures and most importantly time spend with his family. Ramon is survived by the following loving and devoted family members: Wife Christy, and Sons Tomas and Raymond of Palo Alto, CA; Daughter Alicia (Christopher) and Grandsons Alden and Ethan of Belgrade, MT.
Further survived by Siblings Estella, Enrique, Manuel, Rosa, Juvenal, Gloria, Teodolinda, Ernestina, Lourdes, Antonio, and Jorge; Mother-in-Law Waltressa of Boulder, CO; Sisters-in-Law Tania of Westminster, CO and Susan (John) of Jamestown, CO; Brother-in-Law John (Anne) of Saratoga, CA; many nieces and nephews and faithful pup, Buddy. It was our great fortune in so many ways to have had Ramon in our lives. The enormity of our loss is deeply felt and will long be hard to bear.
He will be with us in our hearts always.
