Mr. Randolph Leonard “Randy” Bunton, Sr., age 82, of Walterboro, entered into rest Wednesday morning, January 9, 2019, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. Born July 19, 1936, at home in Colleton County, South Carolina, he resided in Columbia for a number of years before returning back home for the past thirty-two years. He was a son of the late Joseph Curtis Bunton and the late Jewel Hudson Bunton.

He graduated from Columbia Commercial College, and it was during his college days that he met his wife, Karen Joan Bunton, a native of Solingen, Germany. He worked a long and dedicated career, having worked as a general manager for Dillard Paper Company, eventually retiring as Vice President of International Paper in Charleston. He was a faithful member of Sandy Dam United Methodist Church in Walterboro, where he was dedicated to the Men’s Breakfast and was active in many aspects of the church’s work.

He was formerly active in the North Charleston Rotary and the Lions Club in Columbia. Randolph loved his family and truly loved fishing and tending to his garden, always growing a well known and anticipated crop. Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty-two years are: three children, Carol Bunton Grant and her husband Dave of Meggett, Susan Bunton Haynes and her husband Thomas of South Bend, Indiana, and Randolph L. “Randy” Bunton, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Yonges Island; a brother, Gene Bunton and his wife Margaret; and a sister, Betty Breland of Denmark; five grandchildren, Heather Grant, Eric Bunton, Jami Bunton, Sarah Haynes, and Avery Haynes; and two great grandchildren, David Chase and Halie Chase.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Bunton Ward; and a brother, James Curtis Bunton. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Sandy Dam United Methodist Church or the church’s Cemetery Fund, care of Sheryl Hiott, 4916 Charleston Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488. Memorial services will be conducted 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, January 12, 2019, from Sandy Dam United Methodist Church, 3422 Charleston Highway, Walterboro.

The Reverend Jay Woods officiating. A family committal service will be held in the churchyard at a later time. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation prior the funeral ceremony beginning at 1:30pm that afternoon in the Social Hall of Sandy Dam United Methodist Church.
