Obituary for Randolph Samuel “Randy” Nix Randolph (Randy) Samuel Nix, age 60, left us on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. He was born on October 2, 1958 in El Paso, Texas, to Eugene and Bettye (Hare) Nix. He was raised on the Corralitos Ranch, west of Las Cruces, where he learned to be a cowboy, speak Spanish and cook amazing food.

Randy was a graduate of Las Cruces High School and was very proud of his Bulldawg’s. He was married to Peggy K. DeMenge-Nix on April 16, 1988, in Las Cruces. Randy did attend New Mexico State University until he was admitted into the fire academy.

He worked for the Las Cruces Fire Department for over 20 years and retired as a Battalion Chief in 1998. He made many lifelong friends during his career with the Fire Department. After retirement, Randy became a truck driver and was able to visit many different places around the country.

He enjoyed many hobbies, including reading novels, watching NASCAR races and watching football. Randy was survived by his wife, Peggy, stepchildren, Tanya Strong, John Strong, Michael Strong, his wife Owen Ehiman, and their daughter, his granddaughter, Kendrix Strong. He had many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents and his younger sister, Anna Marie Hiltunen, father in law Willard (Will) DeMenge, grandchildren Kasen and Kane Strong, and many aunts and uncles. Family, friends, and others whose lives Randy touched invited to Getz Funeral Home, 1410 Bowman Ave. , Las Cruces on Thursday, January 17, 2019 for the viewing, from 5:00-7:00pm.

There will be a celebration of life following the viewing at Uno’s, 2102 Telshor Court, at 7:30. The funeral service will be at 9:30am, on Friday, January 18, 2019, also at Getz Funeral Home. To send flowers to the family of Randolph Samuel “Randy” Nix, please visit our Heartfelt Sympathies Store.
