Raymond’s Obituary Raymond Junior Corley, 89, of Fairmont, formerly of Morgantown, passed away on February 4, 2019. He was born in Pursglove WV on November 15, 1929, a son of the late Edgar and Pearl Hunt Corley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Bernadine Hegner Corley; his brothers, Henry, Donald, Frank and William; and his sisters, Eleanor Corley Prator and Virginia Mae Corley.

Mr. Corley retried from the Morgantown Department of Energy in 1985 as an Engineer Technician Supervisor. Ray served as a U.S. Army Military Policeman [Company A, 796th Military Police Battalion] in Vienna Austria and was the Captain of their football and basketball team. He also pitched two no-hit, no-run games for the U.S. Army European baseball team.

Ray graduated from University High School, Morgantown where he lettered in three sports and was selected on the All North football team. Mr. Corley, also known as “Catfish Corley” remained active in local sports by coaching several Little League, Babe Ruth and Senior Babe Ruth baseball teams. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved to throw horseshoes, play cards and Pokka dance.

He is survived by his two sons, Mark Allen of Fairmont and his companion Stacy Strawderman; and Raymond Michael and his wife Kimberly Konchesky Corley of Morgantown; four granddaughters, Jocelyn Shuttlesworth, Radine Gum, Stephanie Corley, and Jackie Corley; two great-grandsons, Rhyus Gum and Niko Corley; four brothers, Jerry, Robert, Paul, and Gary; and three sisters, Judy Corley, Carolyn Renner, and Betty Bracken. Special thanks to Amedisys Home Health Care for the excellent care given to Ray. Visitation services will be held at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, Morgantown on Saturday February 9, 2019 from 6pm to 8pm and again on Sunday from 1pm until the time of funeral services at 2pm with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating.

Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you continue supporting your favorite local organizations/charities.
