Raymond J. “Slim” Mattie, 92, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at his home on December 12, 2018. He was born May 14, 1926, in Sturgeon Bay to Arthur and Louise (Neimeyer) Mattie. On June 18, 1949, he married Joyce Chase in Sturgeon Bay, she preceded him in death on February 28, 2003.

Ray was a long-time employee of the City of Sturgeon Bay (45 years) and also did surveying work with Jerry Slavik for 25 years. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and wintering in Florida, country music festivals, and following the Packers. Ray especially enjoyed get togethers with family and friends.

Survivors include seven children, Laurel Vanderhoof, Sturgeon Bay; Susan McKuen, Sturgeon Bay; Peggy Mattie, Milwaukee; Michael Mattie, Sturgeon Bay; Colleen (James) Hrubesky, Oconto; Rebecca (James) Hansen, Sturgeon Bay; and Julie Mraz (Scott Tebo), Sturgeon Bay; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Mattie, Green Bay. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joyce; one son-in-law John Vanderhoof; one great-granddaughter Mollie Hansen; two brothers, Arthur and Joseph; three sisters, Arlene, Betty (Phil) Sparacino, and Delores (Lloyd) Wesa. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday December 17, 2018, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay with Rev.

Joel Sauer officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Bayside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Forbes Funeral Home and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Monday.
