Reid Landry Garrant, 22, died in Boston at Brigham & Women’s Hospital after an acute battle with Leukemia (APML/APL) on June 1st, 2018. He was born in Melrose on October 1st ,1995 to Brian Garrant and Paula (Counihan) Garrant. Raised early on in Revere and Peabody and later resided between West Newbury and Merrimac.

When he passed, he was living in Haverhill, MA. He was educated at Pentucket Regional High School, where he graduated in 2014. He played varsity for both football and Lacrosse.

Reid went on to attend The University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, where he studied criminal Justice and had been recruited to play football there. He later decided to attend Northern Es Community college, where he continued studies in criminal justice. He had dreams to follow in his father’s footsteps as a Massachusetts State Trooper.

Reid was employed as club security in several Boston nightclubs and also worked as a landscaper for his Godfather, Jeffrey Butt. Reid additionally enjoyed playing hockey, baseball, basketball at different times throughout his life. He also enjoyed watching all sports particularly the Pittsburgh Steelers, Boston Bruins, and Boston Celtics.

He enjoyed hanging out and playing video games on xbox with his friends and loved to listen to Metallica, The Zac Brown Band and Queen…His favorite songs were “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Chicken Fried”. Reid loved to eat…anytime, anywhere! Italian, Indian, sushi, Sparky’s Wings, and home cooked meals at home.

Reid was known as the “gentle giant”. At 6’3” and 290lbs he had an undeniable presence…but he was kind, loving, funny, loyal and so much more to family and friends alike. Reid had a huge heart and would do absolutely anything for anyone!

One of Reid’s favorite quotes was, “Family, God & Football”. Reid was raised Catholic and belonged to Holy Redeemer/St. Ann’s Parish in West Newbury, Ma, where he received his confirmation. He had a strong faith in God, which carried him through life.

When talking with Reid’s closest friends about who he was, they said, “Reid was not the life of the party…he was the party”. Reid is survived by his father Brian Garrant and his wife Pamela of Saugus and mother Paula (Counihan) Garrant of Haverhill, formerly of Winthrop, his Sister and Best Friend Taylor Garrant of Haverhill, MA; step father Daniel McCallister of Portsmouth, NH, step-sister’s Gianna, Bianca and Alexa Faysal of Saugus; Step-Sister’s Sarah and Maddy McCallister of Stratham, NH; Paternal Grandmother, Faith Garrant of Plattsburgh, NY and Auntie, Claire Landry of East Boston; Reid is now with his angels- Grandmother, Marion Landry of Winthrop, MA; Grandfather, John Counihan of Los Angeles, CA (formerly Boston); David Garrant of Plattsburgh, NY and Uncle, Paul Landry of East Boston; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Family and friends may call on Sunday June 10, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950.

Parking available behind the Funeral Home. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday June 11, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport. Please meet directly at church.

Burial will be private at a later date. Please Join his family and friends for a Celebration of Life, following the mass at Surfside on the ocean, 25 Broadway, Salisbury Beach, MA 01952 In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Reid’s name to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at: www. lls.org.
