Obituary for Rev. James Boyd Chewning Graveside funeral services for Rev. James Boyd Chewning, 79, who entered into rest on November 1, 2017, will be held at 11 o’clock on Saturday, May 5, 2018, in Salem Church Cemetery, Bishopville, SC.

Hancock-Elmore Hill Funeral Home is serving the family. Rev. Chewning was born on September 5, 1938, in Mullins, SC, a son of the late Claudius Pritchard and Alliene Leach Chewning.

He served as a United Methodist Church minister until his retirement in 2004. He is survived by his sister, Mary Lowder; nephews, Bobby Lowder, and Tom Lowder; nieces, Maryanne Lowder, and Martha Sturgeon, all of Sumter, SC; one aunt and a number of cousins. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Scott Lowder.
