Obituary for Rev. Warren Scamman Rev. Warren Scamman, passed away, on May 19, 2018, at Berkshire Medical Center.
He was called home by his heavenly Father whom he faithfully served. He lived his life joyfully, and shared his faith with many people. Born in Phillips, Maine on May 23, 1926, he was the son of the late Henry W. Scamman and Dorothy W. Norton.
He attended schools in Maine and received his Bachelors degree from Boston University and Masters from Connecticut. He served in the US Navy during World War II and again during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Mary Bennett, on June 9, 1956 in Grafton MA.
Rev. Scamman, a former pastor of the United Methodist Church of Cheshire, was active in reaching out to other pastors in the Cheshire area. He was currently serving as pastor of the Peru Congregational Church.
Warren also served as chaplain of Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction for twenty-eight years. Previously, he worked as a high school science teacher. He enjoyed fishing for brookies in the streams and brooks of Maine.
He and his family were Civil War history enthusiasts. He was well known for his “down Maine” sense of humor. He loved to read, hike and garden, but especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
His family in Maine made maple syrup, and Warren continued to produce maple syrup with his family in Windsor for many years. He and Mary enjoyed trips along the N.E. coast and the back roads of the Berkshires. Besides his loving wife of almost 62 years, he leaves his two daughters, Judith Lee Page and her husband Douglas Nicklien of Buskirk, NY, and Jane Diane Melnyk and her husband, Andrew Melnyk, of Newton, NC; his son Steven H. Scammam, and wife Deena Jo Garrett, of 29 Palms, CA; his two brothers, Allen Scamman of Strong ME, and Lewis Scamman of Olympia, WA; eleven grandchildren, Leah Field and husband Shawn Field, Michael Zaffino , Nicholas Page, Benjamin Melnyk, Joseph Melnyk, Anna Melnyk, Samuel Melnyk, Peter Melnyk, Mary Melnyk, Lindsey Scamman and Taylor Scamman; five great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews and many friends.
Warren also leaves his special friend, Lilly the cat. He was predeceased by his daughter Beth Elaine Scamman; his brothers Stephen Scamman and John Scamman; his sisters Louise Stacy, Anna Scamman and Miriam Fenn. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Rev.
Warren Scamman will be held SATURDAY, June 2, 2018 at 2:00pm at Peru Congregational Church. Pastor Norman Lee will officiate. Prior to the funeral, there will be a 1pm military graveside service at the cemetery on Shaw Road in Windsor.
Calling hours will be held FRIDAY June 1, 2018 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Dery-Foley Funeral Home in Dalton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the International Ministerial Fellowship or Peru Congregational Church, in care of the funeral home.
