Rex Wilson June 7, 1926 – February 11, 2019 Rex Wilson HUNTINGTON-John Rex Wilson was born June 07, 1926 in Hiawatha, Utah to Pierce Wilson and Hilda Gilbert. He passed away peacefully on February 11th, 2019 in Provo Utah. Rex was the fifth of nine children.

At the age of 9 his family moved to Huntington, Utah. He was drafted into the Army at age 18 where he trained at Fort Ord, CA as a Rifleman until he was honorably discharged after a long illness. He returned to Huntington where he married Rose Alice Grange, on June 11th, 1947.

He worked hard to provide for his family of 5 children, Boyd (Jackie), Sharlynne (Willard), Kaylynne (Randy), Elaine (Dan), and Stacy (Tom). He began his career as an auto mechanic working at car dealerships in Orem and Price, Utah. He learned to repair all makes of automobiles.

He moved to coal mining and became a coal mine mechanic. He worked hard and enjoyed fixing things. He always had a small farm where he raised animals and grew a garden.

Rex served continuously throughout his life in many capacities. He served in many positions within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He also served civically, and in various capacities with the Boy Scouts of America.

He was nominated for the highest rank in scouting, receiving a Silver Beaver. He served many neighbors and friends throughout his community. He was a volunteer driver for the D.A.V. bus from Emery County to the Veteran’s Hospital in SLC several times a week for over 15 years.

Rex’s life was devoted to the service of others. He remained in Huntington until a fall took him from his home to the Mervyn Sharp Bennion Central Utah Veterans Center in Payson Utah. Rex has spent the last three years touching the lives of so many there.

He was voted as the Resident Committee Vice President for 2018 and was running for office again in 2019. We are grateful to the all those at the Veterans home for helping him feel like he belonged and the loving care they extended to him and all those they continually care for. Rex is survived by 3 siblings, (Dean, Enid and Max) 5 Children, 21 grandchildren, and 51 great-grandchildren.

His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the twinkle in his eye. Rex loved little children, and adopted all those that came into his life. Many have said, they were not his, but he made them feel like they were part of his family.

He will always be remembered for his amazing baby blue eyes, his contagious smile, his joyful laugh, and his ability to make everyone feel loved. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Alice, his parents, and 5 siblings (June, Behula, Ruby, Lila, and Lois). Friends may call Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 9:00 -10:45 a.m., at the Huntington Utah Stake Center with the funeral to follow at 11:00am.

Burial will be in the Huntington City Cemetery with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Mervyn Sharp Bennion Central Utah Veterans Home. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Rex online at www.
