Richard A Derks , April 18, 1953 — April 27, 2018

Obituary of Richard Derks Clifton Springs, Richard A. “Rick” Derks was born on April 18, 1953 in Sodus, NY. At 65 years of age he took his pass on life on April 27, 2018 at 4:20pm. Only Rick could check out at his favorite time of day.

Rick left New York more than forty years ago and for those years, he referred to the Sunshine State of Florida his home. He enjoyed the hot sun, everlasting tan, and walking barefoot through the sand leaving his footprint on life. He had a sense of humor never to be forgotten.

Rick expressed his humor wherever he would go and through every situation he was faced with. Even when fighting his recent battle with cancer. Rick had a gentle soul, loving people from all walks of life, finding beauty and goodness in all.

He was very appreciative of the medical care he received both in Florida and New York. He met many people over the last several months, loving each one of you for the care and comfort you provided. He truly enjoyed fishing, fishing and more fishing.

Rick also had a special love for animals he referred to as ‘critters’. He would often say “how could anyone not love a critter”. He had many pets through out his life and recently adopted his sweetheart Lucy.

She provided Rick much comfort and laughter and he said “Lucy is one in a million and she is mine! ” Rick is survived by his loving mother Clara Derks Siblings Reginald (Cindy) Derks Randall (Sharon) Derks Roxanne Ferrara Rebecca (Natalie) Derks Many nieces and nephews. Rick also referred to his two closest friends as his brothers Joey Foss of NY and Brain Sharp of Florida.

Also, Dear friend, Jeanie Parham of Fl- “Love ya girlfriend” He was predeceased by his sister Renee Derks, niece and nephew Stephanie (Gerald) Pennington, Father Erwin Derks and his grandparents. At Rick’s request there will not be a memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to Colony of Caregivers at PO Box 12 Shortsville, NY 14548 of The House of John 14 Spring Street Clifton Springs, NY 14432.

Funeral arrangements have been made with the Cheney Funeral Home 70 MaIn Street Phelps.
