80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 11, 2018. He is survived by his wife Chai-Kyou Mallinson who is a pianist and a retiree from BU Music Facility (2014). Richard was born on July 10, 1938 in Wichita Falls, TX.

He was the Valedictorian at Williamsport High School, Williamsport, PA (1956); he received his BA in Physics from Harvard University, Cambridge, M A (1960); he took graduate courses at Columbia University, NY (1962) and received his PH D in Physics from Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA (1969). He worked for NASA for the Apollo Moon Landing project, Houston, TX (1970-1974) and was the Senior Engineer/Senior Consultant at CAE-Link Corp. for 25 years.

Richard was awarded the National Merit Scholarship to study at Harvard University (1956-1960) and the Inventor Recognition Awards for United States Patents three times. He was a brilliant Physicist and mathematician. He was an avid mountain climber, passionate lover of classical music, especially Beethoven’s music.

Richard was a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club, the Adirondack Forty-Sixers Club, the Sierra Club and Triple-cities hiking. He was an advocate for social justice and equality and volunteered for Citizen Action of NY, working for the local and national elections (2004-2012) and the NAACP as a long time Silver Life member. The family is grateful for the care and love in the final hours at Elizabeth Church Manor.

A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, November 24th, at 10 AM at St. Francis of Assisi, 1031 Chenango Street, Binghamton.
