Richard C. Cole, 64, of Sanford, NC and formerly of Sandusky, was called Home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, December 16, 2018. Born and raised in Sandusky, Richard was a joy and instant friend to all who ever met him. His incredible personality and sense of humor was infectious and Richard generously gave his time and talents to anyone that asked for help.
He could often be found anywhere along Sandusky’s gorgeous public shoreline or the hidden spots of Jordan Lake (NC) searching for the elusive “Crappie”. Richard attended Sandusky High School (class of ‘72) and attended classes at BGSU Firelands. Through the years, he worked for Akil Industries, American Quality Stripping, and G&C Foundry before a work-related injury ended his working career.
In 2014, Richard began a new chapter of his life, moving Sanford, NC with his wife and caring for his father-in-law, who is now 99 years old. Richard’s days began with daily family devotion around the breakfast table, and his days were filled with love, laughter, and of course, a little fishing here and there. The family united with Chapel Hill Bible Church where Richard grew in his knowledge and faith in Jesus Christ and discovered the true meaning of “resting in grace”.
Richard leaves to celebrate his Homegoing his loving wife of 26 years, Diedre; father-in-law, Willis L. Davis; daughters, Montoya (Issac) White, of Shawnee, KS, Norissa (Brian) Anderson, of La Plata, MD, LaShawn (Calvin) Westley, of Avon Lake, OH, and Amanda (Tonny) Hargrove, of Europa, MS; 10 grandchildren, (by age:) ShaNijah, Mariyah, Nasia, Davion, Nadia, Brenden, Shantice, Concordia, Calvin, Jr. and Cameron; two sisters, Georgia Thomas, of Columbus, OH and Astella Cole, of Sandusky; brother, Douglas Cole, Sandusky; a host of nieces and nephews and many friends both in Sanford, NC and Sandusky; dearest and closest friends, Kenny, Moe, and Donnie; and sister-in-the-Lord, Leola Bailey. Richard was preceded in death by his grandmother, Georgiaella Johnson; parents, Lyman Davis and Juliette Orr-Cole; son, Christopher K. Clark; and nephew, Emilio Clinton. As a family we rest in the knowledge that we will one day see Richard again and have peace that God will continue to hold our family in His care.
