Kirby 1938 – 2018 South Hadley – Richard C. “Dick” Kirby, 80 passed away December 30, 2018 in Venice, FL. Born July 29, 1938 in Holyoke, he was the son of the late Eugenie (Jubinville) and Edward Kirby, and has lived in South Hadley his entire life. He proudly served his country in the United Sates Army from 1956-1962.

As a Police Officer in South Hadley, Dick retired in 1996 after 32 years of service. He coached baseball for many years while his boys grew to love the game with him. Dick loved all sports.

He happily introduced his two boys to many sports but he exceptionally loved to see Daryl and Jason play baseball and hockey. He and his family often traveled on vacations to enter various baseball or hockey tournaments in the US or Canada. Cape Cod was also one of his favorite summer vacation spots.

Dick also took enjoyment in gambling at the various casinos and scratching lottery tickets. Richard was predeceased by his beautiful wife Kathryn J. (Kosienski) Kirby in 2017 and will be deeply missed by their children, Daryl Kirby and his wife Karen of Chicopee, Jason Kirby and his wife Julie of Venice, FL. , as well as three beautiful granddaughters, Katelyn, Lauren and Leah Kirby.

He also leaves a brother Phil Kirby and three sisters Alice Koske, Jean Clegg and Clair Klekotka. The funeral will be held at the Curran-O’Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb Street, South Hadley at 11:00am on Saturday, January 19, 2019 with burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral Saturday, January 19th from 9:30 – 11:00am.
