Richard D. “Dick” Carson, 91, of Williamsport, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018, at UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport. Surviving is his wife, Erma J. (Curry) Carson, with whom they celebrated 73 years of marriage on January 23. Born Sept.

5, 1926, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Harvey S. and Lydia A. (Flook) Carson. Dick was a 1944 graduate of Williamsport High School. After graduation he was drafted into the Navy during World War II where he served as a Seabee.

Dick was in the invasion of Okinawa on April 3, 1945, with the 9th Marine Division. Following his service Dick used his GI bill to attend the former Williamsport Technical Institute where he earned his degree in refrigeration repair. He worked several years as a refrigeration service man and later retired from Sears after 40 years of service.

He was a lifelong member of St. Paul-Calvary United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd degree mason and a very active member for 50 years at John F. Laedlein Lodge No. 707 F&A.M. Dick was also a former member of the American Legion Post 1.

Dick loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, crabbing in Delaware, and vegetable gardening. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his dogs and taking them out small game hunting. He also enjoyed working with tools and was a talented tool sharpener.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Cynthia L. Moon (Robert), of Williamsport; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five siblings, Olive Mae Sander, William, Harvey, Paul and Fred Carson. A funeral service to honor the life of Dick will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 9 at St. Paul-Calvary United Methodist Church, 1427 Memorial Ave.

, Williamsport, with the Rev. Jennett Wertz officiating. Burial will follow in Montoursville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon until time of service at St. Paul-Calvary United Methodist Church.
