Richard “Dick” Gundrum January 08, 1921 – March 05, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card Richard Goss Gundrum, 98, a longtime Hershey resident passed away peacefully on March 5, 2019. He was born January 8, 1921 in Beaver Springs, PA, son of the late Paul and Lulu (Goss) Gundrum. Affectionately known as “Dickie”, he graduated from Lewistown Vocational High School in 1939 and the Navy Submarine School in New London, CT in 1942.

He was a Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class in the Navy for 3 years and was aboard the USS Billfish Submarine for 8 WWII patrols in the Pacific Ocean. Dick received his training at Penn State and early on was employed as a county milk tester. After relocating to Hershey he was employed at the Milton Hershey School in various positions and retired after 30 years of service.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, telling stories and napping. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Isabelle Kuhns as well as his very close friends, Stan Reese and Charlie Pursch. He leaves behind his extended family members in the Reese and Pursch families A casual visitation to honor his life will be held on Sunday, March 10th from 3-5PM in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory in Hershey.

Interment with military honors will be at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Monday, March 11th at 10:00am. Please arrive at the rear of the cemetery administration building by 9:45am if attending. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to PA Wounded Warriors, Inc., 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill PA 17011.
