Richard “Dick” M. Long, 64 of Clay City, passed away Monday, December 10, 2018 at Owen Valley Health Campus in Spencer, Indiana. He was born in Brazil, Indiana on April 24, 1954, the son of George Long and Ruth Colenbaugh Long. Dick was a graduate of Clay City High School, the class of 1972.

After high school he attended Nashville Auto Diesel School. He married his wife, Cathy Foster on June 10, 1978. Together they raised their children on the family farm.

He worked alongside his dad… and brother on the farm, and was passionate about cultivating the land and maintaining the equipment. Dick was a member of the First United Church of Christ, the White River Valley Antique Association and the Clay City- Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department. He participated with the Clay City Fair Board, and he enjoyed working at the tractor pulling competitions by grading and rolling the track.

He and Cathy loved ball room dancing together and spending time with their family and friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth Long. Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Cathy Long; two sons, Scott Long and wife, Holli of Plainfield, Illinois and Greg Long and wife, Summer of Clay City; two grandsons, Jake and Charlie Long; a granddaughter, Emily Long; his brother, Jack Long and wife, Belinda of Clay City; his sister-in-law, Carol Foster; a brother-in-law, Steve Foster; a niece, Jenny Hutchinson; a nephew, Brad Long; and nephews-in-law, Ryan and Andrew Foster.

Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 8:00PM Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. 8th Street, Clay City. Funeral services will be conducted on 11:00AM Friday, December 14, 2018 at the First United Church of Christ, 6414 S. County Road 300 East, Clay City. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 to 11:00AM Friday.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
