Richard “Dick” O’Clair, age 78, of Matlock, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be at a later date. Richard “Dick” O’Clair was born on October 11, 1940 in Spencer, Iowa.

He was the son of Claude and Lois (Eaton) O’Clair. He lived his youth in Spencer where he attended school and graduated from Spencer High School. He joined the United States Army after high school.

He was united in marriage to Karen Kehoe of Milford, Iowa on September 22, 1959 in Spencer. Dick was deployed to Japan after they were married and they lived in Japan for 1 ½ years where Dick was a food inspector. They came back to Spencer and also lived in many northwest Iowa communities where Dick was a meat inspector for U.S.D.A.

for 35 years. He retired in the mid-eighties and they lived in Matlock, Iowa. Dick enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting, and trapping when he was younger.

He went fishing in northern Canada and mule deer hunting in Montana with Karen. Dick and Karen also traveled to Alabama, Kentucky, and Puerto Rico, to visit their daughter, and while they were there, Dick enjoyed fishing. He liked playing cards with his friends.

His family was special to him and he took extra time for his great-grandbabies. He passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 59 years, Karen O’Clair of Matlock, IA; daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne and Dave Brodersen of Matlock, IA; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth “Chon” and Susan O’Clair of Matlock, IA and their 2 daughters, Elizabeth and her husband Jordan Lovan and their 3 children, Addison Lovan, Jaxson Lovan, and Kierson Lovan, and Lacey O’Clair; sister and brother-in-law, Valerie and John Sadowski; sister-in-law, Charlotte O’Clair.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Claude O’Clair; and sister, Joyce O’Clair.
