Richard Fred Liekweg, 83, born 11th month; 4th day; of ‘34 as he repeated so many, many times the past 9 weeks, died peacefully May 22, 2018 at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls. He died of recent respiratory complications after defeating cancer 2 times. Memorial services are planned for 12:30 pm Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Iowa Falls Elks Club with lunch to follow.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 12:30 pm also Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Elks Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the family: Richard Liekweg Memorial; c/o Linn’s Funeral Home; 1521 Washington Ave. ; Iowa Falls, Iowa 50126.

The family will forward memorials to scholarship funds of their choice. The son of Albert and Wilhelmeine Wiele Liekweg, he was the youngest of 11 children and born in Ross Township, Rural Sheffield, Iowa. Returning to high school after three years of growing up he graduated from Sheffield High School in 1956 and Ellsworth College in 1958.

He and Peggy Jo Behrens were married in 1959. They have two children: Brad and Pam. Richard operated Rich’s Standard Service from 1960 to 1973.

During several of those years his brother, Edward, joined the business and operated as a partnership. He worked for Arrowood Marine for several years in a full and part-time capacity, then retiring from the Iowa Falls Community School District as school bus foreman in 1998. Years of retirement found Rich participating in tractor and farm shows where he displayed his all white Allis Chalmers-made M-7 Snow Rescue Vehicle.

He also faithfully followed Peg to antique shows for about 20 years. A 57 year member of the Iowa Falls B.P.O. Elks Lodge #1674 he served as Exalted Ruler in 1967 and was a member of the 1963 Iowa State Ritualistic Championship Team competing in San Francisco at the National Convention. He is survived by his wife: Peggy Liekweg; son: Brad and wife Jolene Liekweg, grandson: Zachary and wife Dawn Liekweg, great-grandchildren: Drake Henrichs, Deegan Liekweg, and Jaedalyn Liekweg all of Iowa Falls; grandson: Jake and wife Brittany Liekweg; great-grandsons: Kolt and Brock Liekweg of Grundy Center.

Also surviving is his daughter Pam and husband Ken Pearce; granddaughter Hannah Pearce and Jared Faris; great-granddaughters: Maci and Leah Faris; granddaughter: Patience Smith; grandson Isaac Smith; all of Iowa Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
