Richard J Gallas , March 14, 1920 — December 10, 2018

Richard J. Gallas age 98, of Ashland, passed away Monday, December 10, 2018 at the Good Shepherd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 14, 1920 in Bentleyville, PA. , the son of Peter and Mary (Noel) Gallas.

Mr. Gallas had been a resident of Ashland since 1956. He had been employed with the Ashland County Extension Office until his retirement in the early 1980’s; previously he had been a meat cutter with A & P Grocery until its closing. Mr. Gallas was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church.

He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he served during WWII. He enjoyed baseball, dogs and cars especially Buicks. After his retirement he enjoyed helping his neighbors.

On June 25, 1955 Richard married Helen (Ferens) Gallas who preceded him in death in 2006. Survivors include his daughter, Susan (Terry) Robinson of Peyton, CO. ; his granddaughters, Emily (Nate) Marrs and Natalie Robinson both of Colorado Springs, CO.

; his great-grandson, Cameron Marrs; niece, Gloria Ozarowski of Washington, PA. , along with his nephew, Bill Kotyk of Canonsburg, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; and sisters, Barbara, Mildred and Adeline.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Edward’s Catholic Church on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. with Father Rod Kreidler officiating. A Rite of Commital will follow at Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to Hospice of North Central Ohio 1050 Dauch Dr. Ashland, Ohio 44805. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Lutheran Village where he lived 11 years and the Good Shepherd for the wonderful care Richard received.
