Richard J. Mills age 82, of Ashley, MI, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018, at Carson City Hospital, Carson City, MI. Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI, on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Jeff Reser officiating. Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Richard was born in Gratiot County, MI on March 12, 1936, the son of Benjamin and Eva (Peabody) Mills. He graduated from Ashley High School with the class of 1955.

Richard married Joan Paksi on September 24, 1955 in Ashley, MI; Joan passed away July 13, 2015. Richard retired from Lobdell Emery in 1998. He enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by son Kevin Mills of Ionia, MI; son Kelly and Jalene (Komora) Mills of Westphalia, MI; daughter Konnie and Chris Bovee of Ithaca, MI; grandson Jeremy Mills (Ashley) of Westphalia, MI; granddaughter Taylor Bovee of Ithaca, MI; 2 brothers: Elton and Mary Mills of Portage, MI, Kenneth and Maxine Mills of Flushing, MI; and 2 sisters in law: Sara Mills of Portland, MI; and Molly Mills of St. Johns, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers: L.D., Robert, Ben, Irving, and Don and an infant sister Ruth. Memorials may be made to a Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
