RICHARD’s Obituary Richard (Dick) Jesse Polson, 92, passed away on February 28, 2019 following a stroke at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach, Florida. He was born September 12, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa to Helen and Jesse Polson. The family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where he attended school.

After graduating high school, Dick joined the Navy and served in World War II aboard the destroyer, USS Halford. He was very proud of his service in the Navy. Following the Navy, Dick returned to Lincoln and attended the University of Nebraska.

He played semi pro baseball for the next couple years. His career as a manufacturer’s rep for contract furniture took him to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and eventually to the Washington, D.C. area. Dick loved sports and through the years played squash, handball, basketball and racquetball.

He was once named Champion All Around Player in a YMCA tournament in Washington, D.C. Five years ago he took up playing pool and enjoyed playing with his pal, Ram, in Ashburn, VA and also in Vero Beach. He had a passion for traveling and visited many countries around the world with wife, Ann. One his favorite destinations was visiting good friends in Italy, the Luccioli’s.

His time in the Navy, gave him a love for boating too. He and Ann spent time aboard a variety of boats they owned on the three rivers in Pittsburgh, the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac. They also enjoyed visiting their second home in Vero Beach, good food, friends and family.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Ann Polson, daughter, Sara Luttes and husband Bill of Loveland, CO, daughter, Christie Reardon of South Hadley, Massachusettes and daughter, Julie Dickey of Walkersville, Maryland; five grandsons…Keegan (wife, Sarah), Deven & Conor Reardon, Travis Dickey and Blake Hilzer; great grandson, Theodore Reardon; nephews, Dick Bloom, Salvatore Puzzo and Richard DePasquale. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kate Harrison. A celebration of life will be planned later this year in Virginia.
