Obituary for Richard L. Ware Richard L. Ware, of Greenfield (formally of Shirley, IN) age 87, passed away peacefully after midnight on Sunday September 2, 2018. Born in Shirley, Indiana on November 3, 1930, he graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1950 and proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On December 31, 1954, he married Virginia Lee Collins of New Castle.
They were married for 54 years before her passing in 2008. He was raised by his mother’s parents and his loving aunts and uncles. He was so lucky to have so many family members to raise an outstanding man.
He loved his home town of Shirley, his country and anyone that drove a Ford. His work ethic was second to no one. He was raised as a jack of all trades.
He could work on and fix anything. His biggest fault was never able to say no to a friend or family member needing help. He was a friend to all.
He was good neighbor regardless where he lived in Shirley, on St Rd 234 or in Cobblefield Estates. He was an outstanding Son, Brother, Nephew, Uncle and Cousin. Most of all, he was a great Father and Grandfather.
After starting his family, he decided he needed a more stable income. In October 1957, he started working for Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis, IN. He retired in early 1988.
For the next 30 years after retirement, he was always busy. He built one house and remodeled another one. He was always doing something to stay busy.
It did not matter if it was mowing yards, cleaning house, doing laundry or repairing things. He enjoyed his daily visits at Meijer on East Washington for his coffee and donut with his friends and chatting with the Meijer’s staff. He will be greatly missed by his Grandson Brendon Ware of Chicago, IL, Step Granddaughter Erica Eason of Bloomington, two sons, Greg Ware of Mt Comfort and Brent Ware of Indianapolis, his two sisters, Alberta Calland and Carolyn Grass both of Greenfield, sister-in law, Beulah Maria Collins of Tallahassee FL, brother-in-law, Luther (Patty) Collins of West Sun City AZ and numerous cousins.
Richard is preceded in death by his mother, Mary; grandparents William and Ethel Ware, four uncles, five aunts and numerous cousins. The family wanted to thank the Staffs from Hancock Health Center in McCordsville, Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield and Community North in Indianapolis to guide the family through his final journey. Family requests no flowers, but if you wanted to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.
alz.org or offer to drive someone to have a colonoscopy. Both ways would be a perfect method to honor our Father. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel.
Funeral service will follow at 8:00 PM. Private family entombment will be at Washington Park East Cemetery. Condolences and memories of Richard may be shared at www.
