A mass of Christian Burial will be held August 3, 2018 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton Grove for Richard Perry Williams, age 68. Surrounded by family and caregivers, Richard passed away Sunday July 29, 2018 in Wilmington, NC. Father Kevin Moley will be the celebrant.

The readings will be proclaimed by Emily Williams and Patrick Williams. A gathering of family and friends will be at West and Dunn Funeral Home in Newton Grove at 6:30 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. on August 2, 2018. A rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Interment will follow in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery, Newton Grove on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. A native of Clinton, NC, Richard Williams was born on June 5,1950 to the late Joseph Carlyle and Celeste Perry Williams.

Richard was a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the United States Army. Richard served at Fort Bragg’s JFK Special Warfare Center and retired in 2008 from Fort Monroe’s Training, Doctrine, and Command Center. Richard and Winifred enjoyed life in Williamsburg, Virginia for over 10 wonderful years.

Richard filled his free time with good books, love of sailing, traveling, and spending any time on the water, whether at Hampstead, NC or Williamsburg, VA. Richard was the devoted husband of Winifred Jernigan Williams for 38 years, and the beloved father of Ann-Marie Garza and husband Jonathan of Raleigh, and Julia Celeste. He is survived by sisters Teresa Ralston of Hagerstown, Maryland and Marie Watson (David) of Bradenton, Florida, and he is survived by brothers, Carlyle of Clinton (Michelle), Patrick of Wilson (Ginger), and Philip of Roseboro (Brenda).

Richard leaves behind 12 treasured nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother in law, James Anthony Ralston, and nephew Joseph Donald Williams.
