Richard S. “Dicky Bird” Bower, 85, of Magargle Road, Danville, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Geisinger Medical Center. Born July 19, 1933 in McEwensville, he was the son of the late William and Dorothy M. (Gold) Bower. He was married to Joan A. (Maurer) Bower for 54 years until her death on March 28, 2007.

He was a graduate of Watsontown High School and was employed by Maurer’s Family Farms where worked on the farm and drove a milk truck for over 44 years. He was a member of the California Grange #941 and attended the Montour County Senior Citizens in Washingtonville. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Strawberry Ridge where he had served on their consistory.

He enjoyed square dancing, hunting, and playing cards. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law: Richard “Butch” and Debra Bower, Mt. Pleasant Mills; Ronald and Lisa Bower and Roger and Shannon Bower, all of Danville; three daughters and sons-in-law: Shirley D. and Terry Shultz, Lewes, DE; Debra L. and Jody Miller, Phoenix, AZ; and Clara A. and Mark Oberdorf, Washingtonville; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter; and two sisters: Lois Kirby in South Carolina and Louella Cyphers, Milton.

Preceding him in death besides his wife were three sisters: Betty Strouse, Virginia Derr, and Carol Young; and a brother, Robert Bower. Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 AM Tuesday at Strawberry Ridge Trinity United Church of Christ, One West Diehl Road, Danville, where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM with his pastor, Shawn McNett officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory be made to his church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brooks Funeral Home and Cremation Svc PC, 207 Broadway Street, Turbotville. www.
