Richard W. Hennessey Race scorer and Pit manager Hudson Speedway; Richard W. Hennessey, 80, a resident of the Highlands section of Lowell, passed away peacefully Thursday evening November 1, 2018 at the Northwood Manor Rehabilitation and Care Center in Lowell, Massachusetts. He was the beloved husband for 57 years to Carole C. (Cantin) Hennessey, who survives him. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, August 19, 1938, a son of the late Francis and the late Frances (Sheehan) Hennessey, he attended Billerica schools and was a graduate of Billerica High School.

Richard proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy. Prior to his retirement, he was a lead technician with Raffi and Swanson in Wilmington for many years. Previously he had worked at Olin Chemical Company in Wilmington and at Purity Supreme in Salem, NH.

However his true passion was as a race scorer and pit manager at both Hudson Speedway and Star Speedway. Over the years, Richard, his wife and children all worked at the speedway. In addition to spending time with his family he also enjoyed trips to Foxwoods.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter Victoria L. Hansen and her partner James Boyd of Dracut; three sons Scott R. Hennessey and John E. Hennessey both of Lowell and Mark W. Hennessey of Hudson, NH; 8 grandchildren Gennessa, Nolan and Selena Hansen, Ashley, Jacob, Kimberly, Andrew and Caitlin Hennessey; a sister Louise Patterson of Fitchburg; many nieces and nephews, Richard was predeceased by his brothers Joseph, Thomas, Paul and David Hennessey. Friends may call at the PELHAM FUNERAL HOME 11 NASHUA RD. in PELHAM from 4 to 8 P.M. Monday.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated Tuesday morning at ST. PATRICK CHURCH in PELHAM at 10 o’clock. Committal services will be private.
