Leominster – Richard W. Moniz, 68, of Leominster, died May 20, 2018, in HealthAlliance Hospital, Leominster, after being stricken ill. He was born August 2, 1949, in Wareham, MA, son of Theophilus and Judith (Araujo) Moniz. He proudly served his country in the US Army from Feb.

1969 thru Dec. 1971, attaining the rank of SP4. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Vietnam Service Medal, 1 Overseas Bar, Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle M-16), and Marksman Badge (Rifle M-14).

Prior to his Honorable Discharge he was with the 67th MP Company, Fort Devens, MA. He worked as a Master Plumber for Leominster Plumbing & Heating for many years. Mr. Moniz was member of the D.A.V. and St. Leo’s Parish.

He had coached baseball and football. Richie’s whole life was his wife and his children. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth M. (Pinder) Moniz, one son; Andrew Moniz and his wife Kimberly of Gardner, and one daughter; Beth Ann Moniz her her husband, Scott LaFrance of Fitchburg, his father Theophilus Moniz of Falmouth, MA, three brothers; Theophilus Moniz III of Falmouth, Paul Moniz of Maryland, Michael Moniz of Falmouth, one sister; Judith Hinckley of Falmouth, along with several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Moniz’s Funeral will be held Thursday, May 31, 2018, from Wright-Roy Funeral Home, Inc., 109 West St., Leominster, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Leo’s Church, 128 Main St., Leominster. Burial will follow in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon, MA. A calling hour will precede the funeral on May 31st, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
