Richard Wayne Delco, 85, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at 7:20 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Brentwood Assisted Living, La Porte, surrounded by his family. He was born October 19, 1932, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Ernest and Edith Mildred (Austin) Delco. Richard honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 and in the Indiana Reserves from 1955 to 1961.

He was a retired union plumber for Local 433, now known as Local 210. Richard was very proud… Read More » of his commercial plumbing endeavors. He worked for his father at Delco Inc., Michigan City, from 1955 to 1977.

As owner with his wife, Rita, they grew their family business, R. Delco & Sons Plumbing for 18 years. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, who affectionately called him JaJa. He was a former member of First United Methodist Church, Michigan City.

Richard enjoyed western movies, history, watching the stock market and playing cards. He was always trying to “out fox the fox”. On February 12, 1956, in Michigan City, Indiana, he married Rita Jane (Suchminski) Delco, who preceded him in death July 12, 2009.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Randy Delco; and two sisters, Royce Williams and Ressa Golding. Surviving are four children, Robert Delco of Saint John, Rebecca (Michael) Mellon of Chicago, IL, Ronald (Kim) Delco of Crown Point and Renee Sexton of La Porte; one sister, Reva (Worth) Conru of Chesterton; brother-in-law, Robert Williams of Anderson; six grandchildren, Angela Roberts, Gabrielle Sexton, Ian Mellon, Gretchen Sexton, Mitchell Delco and Peyton Delco. A visitation and viewing will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd.
