Ricky Lee Brand, age 69 of Griffin, GA journeyed home to be with his Lord, Friday, July 13th, 2018. Born in 1949 in College Park, GA, he grew up in a family of four other brothers and one sister. While his siblings and loving parents did struggle financially, this never impeded Ricky’s interest in both art and music.

Volunteering to serve his country in Viet Nam, he enlisted with the US Marine Corps, 3rd Marine Division, in 1967, completed his tour of duty and received Honorable Discharge in 1969. Continuing his life right away, he soon thereafter married the love of his life, Gail Davis. Soon thereafter, he built his career with the Southern Company, where he would retire after 44 years and retired member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Hunting and fishing were but some of his favorite hobbies, but he was always grounded to family commitment, along with his wife raising one son Kevin and daughter, Kelly. Ricky and Gail remained proud of their children’s accomplishments getting college degrees, but equally so in owning two homes with no mortgage. While Ricky was sidetracked due to a spine injury in 1996, he never let these limitations slow him down.

It was in 2013 after suffering a stroke that he began a new stage of his life as a resident of Carl Vinson VA Medical Center. Through daily support of his wife Gail, he did his all to show that having disabilities as a veteran should never slow one down. Ricky remained active with many events at the VA, serving as a member of the American Legion in Dublin.

Active in recreational events, he was a true competitor at events such as the Golden Age Games. But one of his most favorite activities was spent enjoying time with his grandson, Jesse, to whom he was referred to as “Papa Ricky”. Having lived such a full life and known and loved by many, he will be sorely missed.

Services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday at Townsend Brothers Funeral Chapel. Burial will be held the following day at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton on Thursday July 19th at 11:30 AM. Visitation will be Tuesday July 17 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
