Rita E. Scranton, 69, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, in the comfort of her own home, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on December 9, 1949, in Utica, the daughter of Alton and Clara (Carey) Williams. Rita was a graduate of Whitesboro High School.

On February 6, 1971, she married James A. Scranton in St. Paul’s Church, Whitesboro. They enjoyed a blessed union of over 47 years. Rita was a beloved wife, mom, grandma, sister and aunt.

Her family was the center of her life. Rita loved her wild adventures which included numerous bike rides, family trips, time spent at the ocean and by the pool as well as the occasional skinny-dip. She was fond of the winter months and found great joy in feeding and watching the birds.

Rita was the life of the party and a social butterfly. She was always the last one on the dance floor. Rita is survived by her beloved husband, James, Marcy; children, Kevin and Ellen Scranton, Deerfield, Bryan and Leigh Scranton, PA, Keith and Dianna Scranton, New Hartford, Michelle and David Kelly, New Hartford and Missy and Eric Sarner, Whitesboro; grandchildren, Noah, Emma, Scott, Callie, Maya, Taylor, Madison, Blake, Cole, Brayden and Ireland; siblings, Carl Williams, Anne Palmer, and Martin Williams; brother-in-law, Gordon Scranton, sisters-in-law, Janice and Carole Williams; many nieces, nephews and cousins along with close friends too numerous to name.

She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Kylie; brothers, William and Eugene Williams and sister-in-law, Regina Williams. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at McGrath, Myslinski, Karboski & Nunn Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd. , Utica.

Funeral services will be on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Rita’s name may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or at ww5. komen.org/.
