Obituary for Robert Allan Knutson He gave the biggest gifts that we could ask for-LOVE, GUIDANCE, and STRENGTH. He always made aN incredible impact on our lives. And, now, our Father, Husband, Brother, and Friend, is with his Heavenly Father.
Robert Allan Knutson, 89, of International Falls, MN and recently Littlefork Care Center, Littlefork, Minnesota died on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Rainy Lake Medical Center in International Falls. Robert A Knutson retired from Boise Cascade after 44 years of service. Knutson worked as a recovery operator in the steam plant.
Mr. Knutson was born on June 9th, 1929, in Kelliher, MN to Theodore and Edith Knutson. He had five sisters and two brothers. His sisters, Pasty Brader, Bobbie Brader, Ramona Jones, Delores Larson, and brother’s William (Bill) and Richard (Butch) Brader have preceded him in death.
His sister Lois Bradshaw resides in Tucson, Arizona. Theodore, Robert’s father was in his young forties when he passed away form pneumonia. Robert was only three.
His mother, Edith had the responsibility of raising three children on her own. Robert began his adventure at the young age of 14. He rode the rails, set pins at the bowling alley and did all sorts of odd jobs to make it on his own.
He met the love of his life, Helen David from Stratton, Ontario. They were married in 1949 and celebrated 68 years of marriage. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen and his three children, Karen (Mark) Jornlin-Stolp.
Cheryl (Peter) Knutson-Douglas, and his son, David Robert (Julia) Knutson. Robert was blessed with ten grandchildren, Kristy Star Klinkhammer (Deceased) Kari Jornlin, Jacob Jornlin, Erin Skellly-Smith, Jennifer Skelly, Andrea Skelly, and Mary Helen Skelly. His four grandsons, Ryan Knutson, Robert Knutson, Jordan Knutson, and Christopher Knutson, carry on the Knutson legacy.
Robert has fourteen great granchildren: Kira, Cade, Kyler, Kalli, Kya, Allicyn, Ella, Shawn, Carter, Brianna, Joey, Trevor, Lydia, and Hazel Grace. He was a long time active member of Zion Lutheran Church and was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, snowmobiler, and loyal fan of all team sports. He was definitely a Bronco and Midget Hockey Fan.
He coached some his son’s hockey teams, and supported his two daughters in their theater and drama arts. He was very proud of his granddaughter, Erin Skelly-Smith who played division one basketball for the Michigan State Spartans. He rarely missed local sporting events and was an avid Twins and Viking Fan.
His hobbies included bowling and pool which he won several trophies participating in both team sports. Being a Snowbird in Mesa Arizona for 24 years allowed him and his wife to enjoy “mild” winters. They traveled extensively to Europe, the Caribbean and spent a month in Hawaii with their dear friends.
Between cruises, and road trips they were blessed with many adventures and memories. As soon as they got the weather report that the snow had melted and the ice was out, they made their yearly pilgrimage home, which was their cabin on Lynx Island. Between shift work, and everyday cabin maintenance, he always had time for happy hour, friends, family, and fishing!
! ! Robert went to Heaven on Father’s Day which his children believe was appropriate.

Visitation will be held at Green-Larsen Mortuary on Friday, June 22, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial services will be conducted at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. If so desired, in memoriam donations can be made to Zion Lutheran Church 530 6th St, International Falls, MN 56649. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, International Falls.
