Robert’s Obituary WALLKILL, NY — On the morning of January 24, 2019, Robert Anduze died in his home at the age of 88. He was born on September 15, 1930 in Manhattan, New York; the son of the late Joseph Anduze and Rose Cuervo Barrera. Robert is survived by his wife, Carmen Anduze, whom he married on July 4, 1959.
He is survived by five children: Jeannette, Robert, Steve, Rosemarie, and David; and his nine grandchildren: Lauren, Karly, Robert, Samantha, David, Nikki, Ashley, Daniel, and Ava. He is also survived by his four siblings: Marie Jeannette, Ruby, Lilita, and Enrique. After completing his master’s degree at Columbia University in 1964, Robert began a life-long career in the field of social work, working primarily with disadvantaged and troubled youths, as well as with mentally impaired individuals.
From a general caseworker in Lincolndale, Robert soon rose in his field to become the Assistant Executive Director of St. Mary’s in the Field, Valhalla, a treatment center for adolescent girls. Robert went on to serve as Director for various institutions throughout New York City and Westchester County, including; Abbott House, the Youth Shelter Program of Westchester, The Youth Employment Skills Program. , Mobilization for Youth.
Near the end of his career, he served as Clinical Leader for the Westchester Association for Retarded Citizens. In his previous home in Yorktown, Robert owned a large collection of novels and poetry gathered throughout his life, stocked with all the greats of nineteenth and twentieth century literature — from Dostoevsky to Ernest Hemingway and Henry Miller — which he enjoyed reading in his free time. Among other writers, he particularly admired the work of Edgar Allan Poe, his poetry as well as his short stories.
His personal artistic projects included painting: using oil as his medium in a post-impressionist manner, he was particularly interested in depicting the human form on canvas. Several of his paintings still hang in his current home, and are enjoyed by all who visit. Robert will be remembered as a well-read and highly knowledgeable man; a man who could speak intelligently on almost any subject; a great conversationalist, always articulate in expressing his thoughts; and a kind and pensive man, admired by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM on Monday January 28 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave. , Newburgh, NY. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday January 29, at 10 AM at Saint Patrick’s Church, 55 Grand St., Newburgh, NY.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Robert’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or The Lewy Body Dementia Association.
