Robert B. Genetelli Sr. January 14, 1939 – May 28, 2019 Share this obituary View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Robert B. Genetelli Sr., 80, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2019, in Baystate Medical Center. He was born in New York City, son of the late Battista and Julia (Giamelli) Genetelli, was raised in Fairview, NJ and has lived in South Hadley for many years. Robert worked as a machinist for North East Utilities, Holyoke Water Power and Holyoke Gas and Electric and was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church.

He was a master fly fisherman, known best as Fly Rod Bob and loved fly fishing at the Cape, the beaches of Rhode Island and Connecticut, at the Swift River, and Alaska. A longtime Yankees and NASCAR fan, Robert was also an active member of the Weekapaug Surfcasters Club and the Pioneer Valley Boat and Surf Club. An Air Force veteran, Robert served with the 18th Communications Squadron in Thule, Greenland and Westover Air Force Base.

He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren Matthew, Maya, and Rylee. He was predeceased by his wife Judith (Long) Genetelli in 2018. He leaves a daughter Lisa J. Genetelli of Turners Falls, MA, son Robert B. Genetelli Jr. and his wife Allison, of Prides Crossing, MA, daughter Karen M. Genetelli, and her partner Matthew Mullin of Chicopee, MA, and his beloved grandchildren Matthew, Maya, and Rylee.

He was predeceased by his sister Lillian Engebretson. The funeral will be Wednesday, June 5th at 9:00 am from Curran-O’Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley followed by Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, 30 Main Street, South Hadley, MA at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at St. Rose Cemetery.

Calling hours are Tuesday, June 4th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
