Robert Bob Duane M Calip , January 07, 1969 — February 14, 2019

Robert “Bob” McCalip, 50, of Bemidji, MN died Thursday, February 14, 2019 in Bemidji. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 21, 2019 at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Bemidji with Fr. Chuck Huck officiating.

Visitation will be 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Bemidji with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will also be for one hour before the service on Thursday at the church. Inurnment will be at a later time in the Fern Township Cemetery, Becida, MN. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bemidji.

Robert Duane McCalip was born January 7, 1969 in Duluth, MN to Charles and Veronica (Flom) McCalip. He lived in Izmir, Turkey, Grand Forks, ND, Anderson AFB Guam and Bossier City, LA prior to moving to Grand Forks again. He attended Parkway High School, Bossier City, LA his freshman year.

He then attended Grand Forks Central High School graduating in 1987. While in high school he worked bagging groceries at the base commissary and also earned his Eagle Scout. Bob entered the Air Force June 1987 – June 1991 serving in Lackland AFB, Keesler Tech Training Center, Sembach AB Germany from 1987-1999 and then back to Grand Forks AFB.

After his discharge he worked for a bank in Grand Forks for a few months while also working part time at a child care center. Moving to Bemidji, he then worked at Eagles Wing Group Home. He ran Eagles Nest Children’s Home in Crookston for several years.

He also worked for the Ah-Gwah-Ching Center in Walker and North Country Hospital, Bemidji. On September 27, 2011 he married Margaret McCarthy in Fargo, ND. While living in Fargo, Bob found his true career passion of working with students.

He supervised playground activities at Nativity School. Bob returned to Bemidji in 2013 and recently enjoyed working as a paraprofessional at Bemidji High School. He is survived by his wife, Maggie McCalip of Bemidji; sons, Oliver McCalip, John “Jack” McCalip and Charles McCalip all of Bemidji; parents, Charles and Veronica McCalip of Bemidji and brothers, Mike McCalip and John McCalip both of Bemidji.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mildred Sandwick and maternal grandparents, John and Viola Flom. Memorial preference – The McCalip Family Scholarship Fund at St. Philip’s Catholic School. Online guest book at www.
