He was born July 11, 1933 in Lacey, AR to the late Ervin and Bertie (Collier) Jones. Graduate of Drew Central High School in 1951 and Arkansas A & M College (now University of Arkansas Monticello) in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science with emphasis in Business Administration and Accounting.
Lettered in track and football. Member of Keith Memorial United Methodist church-served as church lay leader, chairman of the administrative board, trustee, Sunday School teacher, Arkadelphia District lay leader. He was a 32 degree Mason with the Rockport Lodge #58.
He worked as a Director of Finance with Ouachita Vo-Tech 1971-1991 then transitioned to position of Dean of Finance for Ouachita Technical College until retirement in 1995, Malvern City Council Alderman for Ward 4, Auctioneer with Bob Jones Auctions, Real Estate Agent with McClure’s Real Estate, Referee for high school football and basketball, Manager of Malvern Chamber of Commerce 1964-1971 and Office Manager of Malvern Credit Bureau Services 1961-1964. He served in the Army from 1955-1957 as a Finance Clerk, past Chairman of the Board-Senior Specialists, Area of the Aging West Central Arkansas, Instrumental in the construction of the Malvern Senior Community Center, Past President of Malvern Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Hot Springs County Fair Association, past President of the Malvern Lions Club, served on the Hot Spring County Memorial Hospital Board, served on the board of Camp Tanako, served on the board of Hot Spring County Museum. Awards received in 2001 Denman Evangelism Award for the Arkadelphia District of the United Methodist Church, 1985 Honorary State Farmer Award, 1982 Exceptional Accomplishment Award for Improvement of Community, 1981 Community Service Award, Malvern Daily Record People’s Choice award winner multiple years for Best Auctioneer.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years Hazel (Griggs) Jones, son, Dr. Robert “Robbie” G. Jones, brother-in-laws, Joe Griggs (Cathy), Gary Griggs (Patty), and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, January 10, 1:00-2:00 pm with Funeral Service to follow at 2:00 pm Regency Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Jeff Ladd and David Smith officiating. Burial at Rockport Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Staff of Encore Health and Rehabilitation Center; Members of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Keith Memorial United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Regency Funeral Home.
