Robert’s Obituary Robert Clare McCandlish was born November 16, 1936 in Salem, Oregon. He passed away January 10, 2019 in Sulphur, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years. Robert (Bob) was the first born to Edward and Esther Wirt McCandlish of Keizer, Oregon.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa (Terry) McCandlish, of Wynnewood; his siblings, Carol Gorham of Pendleton, Oregon, James McCandlish of Portland, Oregon, Mary Jo Monten of Sun City West, Arizona. Bob has 5 children, Curtis McCandlish, Phillip McCandlish, Lori Chakarun, Shannon McCandlish, Patricia McDonald and stepson, Christian Rynkiewicz He had 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, with one on the way. His love of horses started after his honorable discharge as a Sgt.

in the U. S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He returned to Oregon to raise his family. He attended Oregon State University where he studied veterinary medicine for a year.

He lived on the Oregon coast and relocated to Redmond, Oregon. Bob was one of the last Oregon State Brand Inspectors. He became the General Ranching Manager of the Crooked River Ranch in Terrebonne, Oregon.

He worked at various ventures which include owning a bar/restaurant (The Mint Still, Culver, OR) and was a horseback mounted guard at the Arizona State Prison in Florence, AZ. He was a realtor/broker and a licensed pilot with his own airplanes. At home on the MC Ranch in Wynnewood he bred and sold AQHA horses and transported horses until his retirement in 2009.

He was a well-respected horse breeder and younger ranchers would come to him for advice and education on breeding lines. Several ranches continue his lines of breeding. He had an embroidery business, sold plants, and was active growing grapes and fruit trees as a hobby.

He was bigger than life, a one of a kind intelligent, loving man and will be truly missed. There will be a celebration of life at a future date in Wynnewood and a memorial for him in Oregon.
