Robert E. Murray, 76, Whitefield, NH, passed away on January 6th, 2019 surrounded by his family after a long struggle with cancer. Bob was born on July 14, 1942 in East Lyndon, VT to Raymond and Pearl (Davis) Murray. In 1961 he married Elsie May Hill and they shared 42 years together until her death in 2003.
Bob worked as a building contractor in Whitefield, NH for 43 years taking great pride in his work. He was a Little League coach for 12 years and served on the Whitefield Volunteer Fire Department for several years. Bob and Elsie owned and operated the local Jiffy Mart for three years with the help of their children.
The last building that he completed was the Trinity United Methodist Church in Whitefield but the last nail that he drove was nailing the first piece of siding on his grandson Tyler’s house which meant that three generations helped in the building of this house. Bob enjoyed snowmobiling, playing horseshoes, watching NASCAR and attending local tracks to watch racing. He and Elsie enjoyed square dancing and he later convinced Fran to learn.
He loved camping especially at the Murray/Davis Family Reunions held each year at the family homestead. As many friends and family knew, Bob was a big prankster and told some of the most ridiculous jokes. On July 9, 2006 he married Frances Morrison Boardman Murray who survives him.
He is also survived by children: Annette Pittman (Terry LaClair), Lyndonville, VT; Raymond Murray (Vickieanne), Goshen, IN; Douglas Murray (Whitefield, NH); Betty Murray (Claremont, NH); Fran’s children: Elaine Ducharme (Anthony), Fairfax, VT; Lance Boardman Jr. (Angela) Bakersfield, VT; and siblings: Virginia Locke (Steven) Bath, NH; Chester Murray (Marge) Columbia, NJ; Pat Tanner (Hayden Sr.) W.
