Obituary for Robert G. Gorum Robert G. Gorum, 75, of Magnolia, AR passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the Wentworth Place in Magnolia. Robert was born in Stamford, TX on March 13, 1943 to the late W.A. and Bertha Gorum. After graduating high school he joined the United States Army, serving as military policeman from 1961-64.

Following his military service he worked in the trucking industry. In the early 80’s he joined the El Dorado Police Department. After moving to Magnolia, he served as Chief Deputy for the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

He then served as investigator for the Magnolia Police Department and was appointed Chief, in 1994 serving for 17 years. He continued to serve his community as a deputy for the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office until 2017. He served in law enforcement for almost 40 years and was instrumental in creating the 13th Judicial Drug Task Force.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Betty Bailey. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Marion Hudgens Gorum of Magnolia, step daughter Sara Coleman of Benton, brother Larry Gorum and wife Glenda of Ashdown, sister Linda Paxton and husband A.C. of Benton, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. A visitation will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service following at 2:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel in Magnolia.
