Robert Gale Sommerville, 94, died peacefully on Friday, December 7, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosalie and grandson Derrick (Ricky) McPherson. Gale was born and raised in Berea, West Virginia, the son of Clovis and Grace (Pride) Sommerville.

Following his service in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII, Gale settled in the West-Michigan area where he met Rosalie. The two were married on New Year’s Eve 1946. He leaves his three children: Gail (Keith) Lewis, Sandy Quakkelaar, and Robert (Jan) Sommerville; grandchildren Gary (Samantha) Montle, Duane Montle, Sheryl (Nate) Rhoads, Stephanie McPherson, Megan Wilks, Jessica (Steve) Kundert, Elizabeth Sommerville, and Robert Sommerville II; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandson.

Gale is also survived by his sister Charlene Riffle; sister-in-law Ginny Sommerville, who provided companionship and assistance for many years; and several nephews and nieces. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and Gale’s ashes will be dispursed in West Virginia at a later date.
