Mr. Robert L. Cox, age 100 of Warrensville, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. Mr. Cox was born on March 22, 1918 in Ashe County to Jess and Polly Farmer Cox. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rhea Taylor Cox; a son, Charles Cox; sisters, Pauline Gilley, Omegene Payne, and Bertha Blevins; brothers; Woodrow Cox, Jack Cox, Dale Blevins, and Paul Gilley.

Mr. Cox served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Cox is survived by: one son, Sonny Cox of Lansing; four daughters, Oneida Dyer of Virginia, Joyce Taylor and husband Junior of Jefferson, Naomi Ray and husband Ron of Jefferson, and Alesia Osborne and husband Bobby of Crumpler; twelve grandchildren, Bobby Burleson, John Burleson, Debbie Burkhart, Diane Sherrick, Bobby Cox, Dean Cox, Jody Taylor, Missy Wier, Freda Lewis, Rita Cox, Crystal Greer, and Christopher Ray; also surviving are 7 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Larry Shepherd, Rev. Danny Farmer, and Rev.

Dan Hess. Burial will follow in the Taylor-Cox Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday evening, February 24, 2019 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

The family respectfully requests no food please. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Words of comfort and remembrance may be viewed or sent to the family through our website at www.
